Background of the Study
Bukola Saraki, a former president of the Nigerian Senate and influential politician from Kwara State, played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of his home state, particularly Offa, Kwara State. His leadership, first as governor of Kwara State and later as Senate President, had a profound impact on political party dynamics not only within the state but also at the national level. Saraki’s political career is marked by his ability to maintain a strong grip on the political apparatus in Kwara, despite shifting political allegiances and emerging opposition movements.

In Offa, Saraki’s political influence has been particularly pronounced, as the town has historically been part of his political stronghold. Saraki’s leadership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and later the All Progressives Congress (APC) created a political framework in which party loyalties were often dictated by his personal and political influence. His leadership style and political maneuvering affected the way parties operated in Offa, including electoral strategies, alliances, and the organization of political campaigns.

This study will examine the impact of Bukola Saraki’s leadership on political party dynamics in Offa, Kwara State. It will focus on how his actions and decisions as both governor and Senate President shaped party competition, loyalty, and governance in the region. The research will explore the long-term effects of Saraki’s political influence on the local political scene in Offa.

Statement of the Problem
Bukola Saraki’s leadership in Kwara State has been the subject of both admiration and criticism. While his political influence has contributed to the dominance of the PDP in the state for years, it has also led to political fragmentation and the emergence of new political forces. In Offa, a town central to Saraki’s political base, the dynamics of party loyalty and competition have been significantly shaped by his leadership. However, the specific impact of Saraki’s leadership on political party dynamics in Offa remains underexplored. This study aims to fill this gap by examining how Saraki’s influence affected political parties in Offa, focusing on party organization, electoral success, and political rivalries.
