Background of the Study:
Human rights laws are essential for ensuring the protection of individuals' fundamental freedoms and dignity. However, there remains a significant gap in the public’s knowledge of these laws, especially in rural areas such as Gashua, Yobe State. Many citizens are unaware of their basic rights, the mechanisms available to protect them, and the role of the legal system in enforcing these rights (Danladi, 2023). This lack of awareness often leads to human rights violations going unreported, which prevents citizens from accessing justice and advocacy support.
The study will investigate the level of public awareness regarding human rights laws in Gashua, examining how much the residents know about these laws, how they access information, and the role of civil society organizations in promoting human rights education. Understanding the existing knowledge gaps is critical for improving human rights awareness and creating a more informed public that can actively engage with the legal systems in Nigeria.
Statement of the Problem:
In Gashua, Yobe State, a significant portion of the population lacks sufficient knowledge of their human rights and the legal protections available to them. This lack of awareness often results in the violation of these rights, as citizens do not know how to seek redress or report abuses. This study will assess the level of public knowledge on human rights laws and propose measures to enhance awareness in Gashua.
Objectives of the Study:

Increased public awareness campaigns and educational programs will improve knowledge of human rights laws in Gashua.
