Background of the Study
The Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of violence in Northeast Nigeria have displaced millions of people, with Borno State being one of the most affected regions. Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps house thousands of children who face significant challenges in accessing quality education. Conventional education systems often fail to meet the unique needs of these children due to resource shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and a lack of trained teachers. Education, however, remains critical for their mental health, skill development, and long-term integration into society.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in addressing educational gaps, particularly in crisis-affected regions. AI-powered educational tools such as adaptive learning platforms, language translation systems, and virtual tutors can provide personalized and scalable learning opportunities. These tools adjust learning content to the child's pace and level of understanding, breaking barriers caused by overcrowded classes or language differences. In IDP camps, where resources are constrained, AI tools offer an innovative way to deliver quality education remotely and inclusively.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of AI-powered educational tools in enhancing learning outcomes for displaced children in IDP camps in Borno State. It explores the potential of AI technologies to bridge educational gaps and foster resilience among children in crisis settings.
Statement of the Problem
Displaced children in Borno State face significant barriers to education due to limited infrastructure, teacher shortages, and a lack of educational resources. Existing interventions are often inadequate in addressing the scale of the problem, leaving many children without access to consistent and quality learning opportunities.
AI-powered educational tools have the potential to address these challenges by offering adaptive, scalable, and resource-efficient solutions. However, their adoption in IDP camps is hindered by technical, financial, and infrastructural barriers. This study investigates the role of AI-powered educational tools in improving educational access and quality for displaced children, focusing on their effectiveness and feasibility in IDP camps in Borno State.
Aim and Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the effectiveness of AI-powered educational tools in enhancing learning outcomes for displaced children in IDP camps.
To identify the challenges associated with implementing AI tools in crisis-affected educational settings.
To explore the scalability and sustainability of AI-powered educational solutions in IDP camps.
Research Questions
How effective are AI-powered educational tools in improving learning outcomes for displaced children?
What are the challenges and opportunities associated with using AI tools in IDP camp education?
Research Hypotheses
AI-powered educational tools significantly improve learning outcomes for displaced children in IDP camps.
Limited infrastructure and funding are key barriers to the implementation of AI-powered tools in IDP camp education.
AI tools provide scalable and sustainable solutions for addressing educational gaps in crisis settings.
Significance of the Study
This study highlights the potential of AI in addressing educational challenges faced by displaced children in IDP camps, contributing to the global conversation on using technology for education in crisis settings. The findings aim to inform policymakers, NGOs, and educators about the feasibility and benefits of AI-powered educational tools, fostering innovative solutions for displaced populations.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study focuses on the application of AI-powered educational tools in IDP camps in Borno State. It excludes other forms of educational interventions and regions outside Borno State. Challenges such as limited data availability and technical constraints may affect the study's scope.
