Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Ethnic profiling is a form of discrimination where individuals are targeted or treated differently based on their ethnic background. In Nigeria, ethnic profiling has been a source of tension, particularly in regions with diverse ethnic populations, such as Jos North LGA in Plateau State. Ethnic profiling can exacerbate security problems by deepening ethnic divisions, increasing mistrust among communities, and fostering violence. This study will explore how ethnic profiling affects security dynamics in Jos North, particularly regarding community safety, law enforcement practices, and the overall security situation.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Jos North, ethnic profiling has contributed to ethnic-based violence and insecurity, with certain ethnic groups being unfairly targeted by security agencies and local communities.
