Background of the Study
In the modern era, mobile applications have become essential tools in enhancing learning experiences across various educational fields, including nursing. Pharmacology, a core subject in nursing education, requires students to understand drug mechanisms, dosages, side effects, and drug interactions. Traditionally, pharmacology education has been reliant on textbooks, lectures, and practical experiences. However, mobile applications (apps) provide a more interactive and accessible learning platform for students, allowing them to study at their own pace and review key concepts anytime and anywhere (Bello et al., 2023).
At Fountain University, Osogbo, the integration of mobile applications into the nursing curriculum is an emerging trend aimed at enhancing students’ pharmacology knowledge. Mobile applications offer various features, such as quizzes, flashcards, interactive diagrams, and drug databases, which can aid students in reinforcing their understanding of pharmacology (Ibrahim & Sule, 2025). However, the effectiveness of these mobile applications in improving pharmacology knowledge has not been extensively studied in the context of Nigerian nursing education. This study will examine the impact of mobile applications on nursing students’ pharmacology knowledge at Fountain University, Osogbo.
Statement of the Problem
Although mobile applications have been shown to improve learning outcomes in various educational fields, there is limited research on their effectiveness in enhancing nursing students’ pharmacology knowledge, particularly in Nigerian institutions. This study aims to assess how the use of mobile applications influences nursing students' understanding and retention of pharmacological concepts and whether these apps contribute to improved academic performance in pharmacology.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the effect of mobile applications on nursing students' pharmacology knowledge at Fountain University, Osogbo.
2. To compare the pharmacology knowledge of nursing students who use mobile applications with those who rely on traditional study methods.
3. To explore nursing students’ perceptions of mobile applications as a tool for learning pharmacology.
Research Questions
1. How do mobile applications impact nursing students' pharmacology knowledge at Fountain University, Osogbo?
2. Is there a significant difference in pharmacology knowledge between nursing students who use mobile applications and those who do not?
3. What are nursing students’ perceptions of mobile applications as a tool for enhancing pharmacology learning?
Research Hypotheses
1. Mobile applications significantly improve the pharmacology knowledge of nursing students at Fountain University, Osogbo.
2. Nursing students who use mobile applications perform better in pharmacology assessments than those who do not.
3. There is a positive correlation between nursing students' perceptions of mobile applications and their pharmacology knowledge improvement.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nursing students at Fountain University, Osogbo, who have access to and use mobile applications for pharmacology learning. Limitations include the potential for bias in student self-reports and the challenge of controlling for other variables that might affect pharmacology knowledge, such as previous academic performance.

• Mobile Applications: Software applications designed to be used on mobile devices, offering features such as interactive quizzes, flashcards, and educational tools to enhance learning.
• Pharmacology Knowledge: The understanding of drugs, including their mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, side effects, and interactions, essential for nursing practice.
• Nursing Students: Individuals enrolled in nursing programs who are learning the necessary knowledge and skills to become professional nurses.
