Background of the Study
Women have increasingly become central figures in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts, particularly in regions affected by violence and insecurity. In Gombe Local Government Area (LGA), Gombe State, women have played significant roles in promoting peace, mediating conflicts, and contributing to the restoration of social harmony. This has been especially critical in regions where intercommunal violence and ethnic tensions have impacted development and security. Women have used traditional networks, civil society groups, and grassroots movements to foster dialogue and create peace frameworks.
This study explores the role of women in conflict resolution and peacebuilding in Gombe LGA, examining their participation in formal and informal peace processes, the challenges they face, and the impact of their involvement on local governance and social cohesion. It will also explore the support mechanisms available for women involved in peacebuilding and how their roles are recognized by state and non-state actors.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing recognition of the importance of women in peacebuilding, women in Gombe LGA continue to face significant barriers in fully participating in peace efforts. These barriers include societal gender norms, lack of access to decision-making spaces, and insufficient support from political structures. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which women in Gombe LGA are involved in conflict resolution and peacebuilding, the challenges they face, and the impact of their involvement on peace outcomes.
