Background of the Study

Effective oncology nursing care is essential for improving the quality of life and health outcomes of cancer patients. However, various barriers—such as resource limitations, inadequate training, or poor institutional support—can hinder the delivery of optimal care. This study will investigate the barriers to effective oncology nursing care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing recognition of the importance of oncology nursing, there are several obstacles to providing high-quality care. These barriers can lead to poor patient outcomes and suboptimal care delivery. This study seeks to identify and analyze these barriers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify the barriers to effective oncology nursing care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.
  2. To assess how these barriers affect the quality of care provided to cancer patients.
  3. To recommend strategies for overcoming the identified barriers and improving oncology nursing care.

Research Questions

  1. What are the main barriers to effective oncology nursing care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital?
  2. How do these barriers affect the care provided to cancer patients?
  3. What strategies can be implemented to overcome these barriers?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The identified barriers significantly affect the quality of oncology nursing care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.
  2. Addressing the barriers will improve the quality of care provided to cancer patients.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on the oncology nursing care environment at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital. Limitations include the potential for underreporting of barriers due to social desirability bias or institutional constraints.

  • Barriers: Obstacles or challenges that impede the effective delivery of care, such as limited resources, inadequate training, or poor infrastructure.
