Background of the Study
A cancer diagnosis can be a traumatic and life-altering event, often causing significant psychological distress for patients. The emotional impact of cancer diagnosis includes feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and uncertainty about the future. Understanding the psychological effects of a cancer diagnosis is crucial for providing comprehensive care that addresses not only the physical aspects of cancer treatment but also the mental health needs of patients. This study will assess the psychological effects of cancer diagnosis on patients at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
Statement of the Problem

However, despite the recognized psychological impact, there is often limited focus on mental health support within cancer care frameworks. This study aims to explore the psychological effects of cancer diagnosis, such as anxiety and depression, and highlight the need for integrated mental health support in cancer care at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
