Background of the Study
Emergency nursing care is a critical component in the management of patients in emergency settings. Quick and effective care in the early stages of medical emergencies can significantly influence patient outcomes, including survival rates. University College Hospital, Ibadan, is a leading hospital with an active emergency department that treats a wide variety of critical cases. This study aims to investigate the impact of emergency nursing care on patient survival rates at the hospital.
Statement of the Problem
In emergency medical settings, timely and accurate nursing interventions are crucial for improving survival rates. Despite this, there is limited research focusing on the direct correlation between emergency nursing care and survival outcomes in Nigerian hospitals. This study will examine how the quality and effectiveness of emergency nursing care contribute to patient survival rates.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of emergency nursing care on patient survival rates in University College Hospital, Ibadan.
To explore the factors influencing the effectiveness of emergency nursing care in improving patient outcomes.
To evaluate the skills and resources required by nurses to improve survival rates in emergency situations.
Research Questions
How does emergency nursing care influence patient survival rates in University College Hospital, Ibadan?
What factors affect the effectiveness of emergency nursing care in improving patient outcomes?
What skills and resources are necessary for nurses to improve patient survival in emergency situations?
Research Hypotheses
Emergency nursing care does not have a significant impact on patient survival rates in University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Factors such as training, experience, and resource availability do not significantly influence the effectiveness of emergency nursing care.
There are no significant differences in survival rates based on the quality of emergency nursing care provided.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the emergency nursing care provided to patients at University College Hospital, Ibadan. Limitations include potential biases in survival data and the challenge of accounting for all variables influencing patient outcomes.
Definitions of Terms
Emergency Nursing Care: Nursing interventions provided to patients who require immediate care due to acute medical conditions or trauma.
Patient Survival Rates: The percentage of patients who survive after receiving emergency medical care.
