Background of the Study
Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, is the most common cause of dementia among the elderly. Effective management of Alzheimer’s disease requires specialized knowledge and skills from healthcare providers, including nurses. Nurses play an integral role in the care of Alzheimer’s patients, as they provide ongoing monitoring, emotional support, and medication management (Sani et al., 2023). In Jigawa State, however, there is limited information on the level of knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards managing Alzheimer’s disease. This review aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of nurses regarding the care of Alzheimer’s patients in Jigawa State, as well as identify areas for improvement in nursing education and training.
Statement of the Problem
Nurses in Jigawa State, like many other regions, may face challenges in providing appropriate care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease due to gaps in knowledge and training. Understanding the specific needs of Alzheimer’s patients and adopting person-centered care strategies are essential for improving patient outcomes. However, the level of awareness among nurses regarding Alzheimer’s disease and its management is not well-documented in Jigawa State. This review aims to assess nurses' preparedness and willingness to care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and explore ways to enhance nursing education and practice.
Objectives of the Study

To assess nurses' knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and its management in Jigawa State.

To evaluate the attitudes of nurses towards caring for Alzheimer’s patients in Jigawa State.

To identify gaps in training and knowledge that affect the care of Alzheimer’s patients in Jigawa State.

Lack of specialized training is a significant barrier to effective Alzheimer’s care by nurses in Jigawa State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This review will focus on the knowledge and attitudes of nurses towards Alzheimer’s disease management in Jigawa State. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported attitudes and the availability of participants from different healthcare settings.
