Background of the Study
Home-based nursing care for elderly individuals is increasingly recognized as a critical component in providing long-term care, particularly in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure. In Kano State, as with many other parts of Nigeria, there is a growing elderly population that often faces difficulties accessing conventional healthcare facilities. Home-based nursing care offers an alternative that caters to the physical, emotional, and social needs of elderly patients in the comfort of their own homes. This form of care can improve patient outcomes, increase independence, and reduce hospital readmissions (Bello et al., 2023). However, despite its potential benefits, the effectiveness of home-based care in Kano State has not been extensively reviewed. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of home-based nursing care in improving the health and quality of life of elderly patients in Kano State.
Statement of the Problem
Elderly patients in Kano State often suffer from chronic diseases, limited mobility, and insufficient access to healthcare facilities, leading to poor health outcomes. Home-based nursing care is a potential solution to address these challenges, but its effectiveness in this specific context remains unclear. There is a need to critically review existing literature on home-based care programs to determine their effectiveness in managing elderly patients' health conditions, preventing complications, and improving overall quality of life.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the effectiveness of home-based nursing care in improving health outcomes for elderly patients in Kano State.
To evaluate the role of home-based nursing care in preventing hospital admissions among elderly patients.
To explore the impact of home-based nursing care on the emotional and social well-being of elderly patients in Kano State.
Research Questions
How effective is home-based nursing care in improving the health outcomes of elderly patients in Kano State?
What role does home-based nursing care play in reducing hospital readmissions for elderly patients?
How does home-based nursing care impact the emotional and social well-being of elderly patients?
Research Hypotheses
Home-based nursing care is positively associated with improved health outcomes in elderly patients in Kano State.
Elderly patients receiving home-based care are less likely to experience hospital readmissions.
Home-based nursing care contributes to improved emotional and social well-being in elderly patients.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the effectiveness of home-based nursing care in Kano State, with a particular emphasis on elderly patients suffering from chronic conditions. Limitations include possible biases in the self-reporting of outcomes and challenges in obtaining a representative sample of elderly patients receiving home-based care.
