Pediatric infectious diseases continue to pose a significant challenge to healthcare systems in developing regions like Jigawa State, Nigeria. Diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and vaccine-preventable diseases remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children (Ibrahim et al., 2024). Nurses are integral to the management of pediatric infectious diseases, as they provide direct care, administer medications, monitor patient progress, and educate families on disease prevention.
However, nurses in Jigawa State face numerous challenges in managing pediatric infectious diseases, including inadequate resources, poor infrastructure, and limited access to training. Additionally, cultural beliefs and practices can influence healthcare-seeking behavior and treatment adherence, further complicating the management of infectious diseases in children. This study aims to investigate the challenges faced by nurses in managing pediatric infectious diseases in Jigawa State and identify strategies to overcome these challenges.
Despite the crucial role nurses play in managing pediatric infectious diseases, several barriers limit their ability to provide effective care in Jigawa State. These challenges include insufficient resources, lack of training, and cultural barriers that affect healthcare delivery. This study seeks to identify and analyze these challenges to improve the management of pediatric infectious diseases in the region.
The study will focus on nurses working in pediatric care units in Jigawa State. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observation of clinical practices. Limitations include possible biases in self-reported data and difficulties in accessing remote healthcare facilities.
