Background of the Study
Emergency trauma care is a critical component of healthcare systems, as it directly affects patient survival and recovery outcomes. In Kano State, emergency trauma cases are common due to road traffic accidents, industrial accidents, and violence-related injuries. Nurses play a pivotal role in emergency trauma care by providing initial assessment, stabilization, and triage, as well as ongoing care throughout the patient’s treatment (Oluwaseun & Usman, 2024). The effectiveness of nursing care in trauma cases is closely linked to the ability of nurses to perform life-saving interventions, manage pain, and provide psychological support to patients and their families.
However, despite the crucial role nurses play in emergency trauma care, there are challenges in the quality of care provided, including insufficient training, inadequate resources, and high patient volumes. This study seeks to appraise the quality of nursing care provided in emergency trauma cases in Kano State, identifying gaps in care and suggesting improvements to enhance outcomes for trauma patients.
Statement of the Problem
Emergency trauma care in Kano State faces numerous challenges, including understaffing, insufficient training, and inadequate access to medical supplies (Ibrahim & Usman, 2024). Nurses, who are essential in managing trauma cases, often face barriers that limit their effectiveness in providing high-quality care. These challenges may negatively impact patient outcomes, making it essential to evaluate the quality of nursing care in trauma situations to identify key areas for improvement.
This study aims to assess the quality of nursing care in emergency trauma cases in Kano State and identify strategies to improve the care provided.
Objectives of the Study
1. To appraise the quality of nursing care in emergency trauma cases in Kano State.
2. To identify the challenges nurses face in providing trauma care.
3. To recommend strategies for improving nursing care in emergency trauma situations in Kano State.
Research Questions
1. How effective is nursing care in emergency trauma cases in Kano State?
2. What challenges do nurses face in providing emergency trauma care?
3. What strategies can be implemented to improve nursing care in emergency trauma cases?
Research Hypotheses
1. The quality of nursing care in emergency trauma cases in Kano State is suboptimal.
2. Nurses face significant challenges, such as insufficient training and inadequate resources, that hinder the effectiveness of trauma care.
3. Implementing improved training programs and increasing resources will enhance the quality of nursing care in emergency trauma situations.
