Background of the Study

Child mortality remains a significant public health concern in Nigeria, with Bauchi State experiencing high rates of infant and under-five deaths. Nurses play a pivotal role in implementing interventions aimed at reducing child mortality, including providing effective antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and postnatal care.

Statement of the Problem

Despite efforts to improve child health outcomes, Bauchi State continues to face challenges in reducing child mortality rates. Understanding the specific contributions of nurses and identifying barriers to effective care are essential steps toward developing targeted interventions.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the role of nurses in implementing child mortality reduction strategies in Bauchi State.

2. To identify challenges faced by nurses in providing effective child healthcare.

3. To recommend strategies to enhance the effectiveness of nursing interventions in reducing child mortality.

Definitions of Terms

• Child Mortality: The death of children under the age of five.

• Antenatal Care: Medical attention received during pregnancy to monitor the health of both mother and fetus.
