Background of the Study

Political patronage, the practice of distributing government benefits and resources to loyal political supporters, is a prominent feature of Nigerian politics. In Nguru LGA, Yobe State, political patronage plays a crucial role in shaping the local development landscape. Political elites use patronage to maintain power and influence by channeling resources to their supporters in exchange for political loyalty and votes (Oluwole & Sani, 2024). While this practice has been criticized for perpetuating clientelism and inefficiency, it also has implications for local development and governance.

This study seeks to investigate the role of political patronage in development outcomes in Nguru LGA. By examining the intersection of political patronage and local development, the study will assess whether patronage networks contribute to or hinder sustainable economic and social development in the region (Jibrin & Nuhu, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem

In Nguru LGA, political patronage often leads to the misallocation of resources, the prioritization of personal and party interests over public welfare, and the entrenchment of power structures that favor a select few. It will offer policy recommendations for improving governance practices in Nguru LGA and promoting more equitable development through the reduction of patronage-driven politics (Yakubu & Tunde, 2023).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
