Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Gender inequality in political participation remains a major issue in many parts of the world, including Nigeria. Women, particularly in rural areas, are often underrepresented in political processes and decision-making bodies. In Pindiga LGA, Gombe State, women face significant barriers to political participation due to cultural, social, and economic factors. This study will explore the impact of gender inequality on political participation in Pindiga LGA, focusing on how gender-based discrimination and socio-cultural norms limit the involvement of women in the political process (Idris & Bello, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite various efforts to promote gender equality in politics, women in Pindiga LGA continue to face challenges in engaging with the political system. This study will investigate how gender inequality affects the level of political participation among women in Pindiga LGA and explore the factors contributing to this inequality.

2. Socio-cultural factors, such as traditional norms, restrict women’s involvement in political processes in Pindiga LGA.
3. Efforts to address gender inequality can increase political participation among women in Pindiga LGA.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by women in participating in politics at the local government level. The findings will inform policies aimed at promoting gender equality in political participation and contribute to broader efforts to empower women in politics across Nigeria.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Pindiga LGA, Gombe State, and will examine gender inequality in political participation among women. Limitations include the challenge of collecting reliable data on gender-based discrimination and the potential for biases in self-reported responses from women.
