Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Political ideologies significantly shape the political landscape of any region, including Northern Nigeria, where a variety of political beliefs, parties, and movements coexist. Jos North LGA in Plateau State provides a unique context for examining the effects of political ideologies on local governance, electoral dynamics, and political participation. The ideological divisions in Northern Nigeria are often marked by the intersection of religion, ethnicity, and regional identity, and these factors have a profound impact on the political decisions and alignments of both voters and politicians (Bello & Zubairu, 2023).

In Jos North LGA, political ideologies range from progressive to conservative, with parties and candidates emphasizing different aspects of governance, development, and social issues.
