Background of the Study

Alternative medicine, encompassing traditional healing practices, herbal treatments, and holistic therapies, has become an integral part of wellness tourism. Bauchi State, renowned for its rich cultural traditions and biodiversity, offers unique opportunities for the promotion of alternative medicine tourism. Healing centers that integrate indigenous practices with alternative therapies attract tourists seeking natural and culturally enriched remedies for their health concerns.

Globally, there is increasing interest in alternative medicine due to its perceived efficacy, affordability, and alignment with sustainable living. Bauchi State can capitalize on this trend by promoting its healing centers as tourist attractions. However, the potential of alternative medicine in attracting tourists to Bauchi State has not been fully explored or documented. This study investigates the role of alternative medicine in attracting tourists to healing centers in Bauchi State, focusing on its appeal, effectiveness, and cultural significance.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing interest in alternative medicine, its tourism potential remains underutilized in Bauchi State. Challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of standardization, and limited marketing efforts hinder the development of alternative medicine tourism. Additionally, there is insufficient research on the role of alternative medicine in attracting tourists to the state. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the factors that influence tourist interest in alternative medicine and the challenges facing the sector.

  2. How does the cultural significance of alternative medicine contribute to Bauchi State’s tourism sector?

  3. What strategies can promote alternative medicine tourism in Bauchi State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Alternative medicine significantly influences tourist interest in Bauchi State’s healing centers.

  2. The cultural significance of alternative medicine enhances its appeal to tourists.

  3. Improved marketing and infrastructure will promote alternative medicine tourism in Bauchi State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
