Background of the Study

Travel advisories issued by foreign governments or organizations are critical factors influencing international tourism. These advisories, often based on perceived risks such as security threats, health concerns, or natural disasters, can significantly impact tourists’ decisions to visit specific destinations. Kaduna State, with its rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions, has experienced fluctuations in inbound tourism due to travel advisories, particularly those citing security concerns.

Globally, studies have highlighted the role of travel advisories in shaping tourist perceptions and behavior. Negative advisories often deter potential visitors, while positive or neutral ones may encourage tourism (Brown et al., 2023). For Kaduna State, the impact of travel advisories is evident in reduced tourist arrivals during periods of heightened security warnings, affecting the local tourism economy (Adebayo & Usman, 2024).

Understanding how travel advisories influence inbound tourism is crucial for developing strategies to mitigate their impact and improve the resilience of the tourism sector in Kaduna State.

Statement of the Problem

Kaduna State’s tourism sector faces significant challenges due to negative travel advisories issued by foreign governments. These advisories, often prompted by concerns about security and political instability, discourage international tourists from visiting the state. Consequently, the local tourism industry experiences reduced revenue, lower occupancy rates in hotels, and a decline in cultural exchange opportunities (Ali & Musa, 2023).

This study aims to analyze the effect of travel advisories on inbound tourism in Kaduna State and propose strategies for mitigating their adverse impacts.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the relationship between travel advisories and inbound tourism in Kaduna State.

  2. To identify the main factors contributing to negative travel advisories for Kaduna State.

  3. To propose strategies for minimizing the impact of travel advisories on the state’s tourism sector.

Research Questions

  1. How do travel advisories affect inbound tourism in Kaduna State?

  2. What factors contribute to negative travel advisories for Kaduna State?

  3. What strategies can minimize the impact of travel advisories on tourism in Kaduna State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Travel advisories do not significantly affect inbound tourism in Kaduna State.

  2. Factors contributing to negative travel advisories do not significantly influence tourist perceptions of Kaduna State.

  3. Strategies for mitigating the impact of travel advisories do not significantly improve inbound tourism.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on the impact of travel advisories on inbound tourism in Kaduna State from 2023 to 2025. Limitations include the variability of advisories and the availability of data on tourist arrivals.

Definitions of Terms
