Background of the Study
Adventure tourism, characterized by activities that involve physical exertion, risk, and exploration, has gained popularity globally. It appeals to thrill-seekers looking for unique and challenging experiences in natural settings (Smith et al., 2023). Gashaka Gumti National Park in Taraba State, Nigeria, offers vast opportunities for adventure tourism, including hiking, wildlife safaris, and mountain climbing.
The park’s rich biodiversity and rugged terrain make it an ideal destination for adventure enthusiasts. However, despite its potential, adventure tourism in Gashaka Gumti remains underdeveloped. Challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited marketing, and insufficient investment have hindered the park’s ability to attract more visitors and maximize its potential as an adventure tourism hotspot (Usman et al., 2024).
Although Gashaka Gumti National Park possesses immense potential for adventure tourism, it has not fully capitalized on this opportunity. Low visitor numbers and limited promotion of its adventure offerings suggest a need for targeted strategies to attract thrill-seekers. Additionally, infrastructural deficiencies and lack of investment in adventure tourism amenities pose significant barriers (Adeleke & Yusuf, 2023).
This study explores the role of adventure tourism in attracting thrill-seekers to Gashaka Gumti National Park, providing insights into how the park can enhance its appeal and visitor experience.
