Background of the Study
E-commerce has transformed the retail landscape by offering convenience, competitive pricing, and a vast array of options to consumers. Businesses like Wakanow, an online travel agency, have leveraged e-commerce platforms to provide seamless booking experiences, reshaping consumer expectations and behaviors (Ibrahim & Musa, 2023).

In Kwara State, the rise of e-commerce platforms has significantly impacted traditional retail businesses, which struggle to compete with the accessibility and affordability offered by online channels. While e-commerce drives innovation and efficiency, it also raises concerns about the decline of brick-and-mortar establishments and the economic implications for local businesses (Adekunle & Bello, 2024).

This study investigates the effect of e-commerce on traditional retail businesses in Kwara State, focusing on challenges, opportunities, and strategies for coexistence in a rapidly evolving market.

Statement of the Problem
The growth of e-commerce platforms such as Wakanow has disrupted traditional retail businesses in Kwara State, leading to reduced foot traffic, lower sales, and operational challenges. Many traditional retailers lack the digital infrastructure and expertise to compete effectively, resulting in declining market shares and closures (Ahmed & Usman, 2024).

Additionally, customers’ preference for online shopping due to convenience and price advantages further exacerbates the challenges faced by traditional retailers. This study examines the impact of e-commerce on traditional retail businesses, identifying strategies to adapt and thrive in the digital age.
