Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Political thuggery, involving the use of violence and intimidation to influence electoral outcomes, has been a persistent issue in Nigerian elections, especially in regions like Zaria Local Government, Kaduna State. This study examines the impact of political thuggery on voter freedom and electoral integrity in Zaria, analyzing how thugs are used to intimidate voters, disrupt campaigns, and influence election results (Usman & Sulaiman, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Political thuggery undermines the democratic process by preventing free and fair elections, with voters often coerced or threatened into abstaining from voting or supporting particular candidates.
