Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Media plays a pivotal role in shaping public opinion during elections. In Nigeria, the issue of media ownership and political bias has been a concern, particularly during election periods. In Jos North Local Government, Plateau State, the concentration of media ownership in the hands of certain political elites may influence the way electoral information is presented, potentially skewing voter perception. This study aims to examine the relationship between media ownership and political bias during elections, analyzing how media outlets in Jos North shape electoral outcomes (Tukur & Kabiru, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The ownership and control of media outlets often lead to political bias, with media organizations promoting the interests of their owners or political sponsors. In Jos North, the political affiliation of media houses may result in the dissemination of biased information, negatively affecting voter perceptions and decisions. This study will explore how media ownership influences political bias and how such bias impacts election outcomes in Jos North Local Government (Ismail & Bala, 2023).
