Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Political campaign promises are an essential part of democratic elections, as they serve to outline the intentions and priorities of candidates and political parties. After elections, the extent to which these promises are fulfilled can affect the credibility of politicians and the trust voters place in the democratic process. In Bauchi Local Government, Bauchi State, political campaigns have historically been marked by promises related to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. However, the post-election fulfillment of these promises often falls short, leading to disillusionment among voters. This study will evaluate the relationship between political campaign promises and post-election accountability, focusing on Bauchi Local Government, and explore how these promises influence voter trust and political engagement (Yusuf & Tukur, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the prevalence of campaign promises, the gap between what is promised and what is delivered often undermines voters’ trust in political leadership. In Bauchi, many campaign promises remain unfulfilled, leading to questions about the mechanisms of post-election accountability. This study seeks to evaluate how political parties and elected officials in Bauchi Local Government manage their promises and how they are held accountable for their campaign commitments (Idris & Ahmad, 2023).

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the evaluation of political campaign promises and post-election accountability in Bauchi Local Government. Limitations include difficulties in tracking the exact fulfillment of promises over time, as well as the potential for bias in participants’ perceptions of accountability.
