Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

In Nigeria, the allocation of revenues to local governments plays a crucial role in enabling them to provide essential services and promote development within their areas of jurisdiction. Gombe Local Government, Gombe State, receives a share of the revenue allocated by the federal and state governments, but the effective use of these funds for developmental purposes remains a critical issue. This study aims to evaluate the impact of local government revenue allocation on development in Gombe LGA, examining how effectively the funds are utilized for infrastructure, education, health, and other key sectors.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The effectiveness of local government revenue allocation in fostering development has been a subject of debate. In Gombe LGA, despite receiving revenue allocations, there are concerns about how these funds are managed and whether they translate into tangible development. This study will explore the challenges faced by Gombe LGA in utilizing allocated revenues for the development of the local area.
