Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Youth representation in decision-making processes is increasingly recognized as crucial to ensuring that the interests of young people are adequately addressed in governance. In Bama LGA, Borno State, youth councils have been established as platforms for young people to engage with local government and influence decisions that affect their lives. These councils provide an avenue for youth participation in local governance, fostering greater political engagement among young people. However, the actual impact of youth councils on decision-making processes has not been comprehensively evaluated. This study will assess the role of youth representation in decision-making in Bama LGA, specifically focusing on the effectiveness of local youth councils in influencing policy and governance outcomes (Hassan & Idris, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While youth councils are seen as a means of fostering youth engagement in governance, their role in actual decision-making processes in Bama LGA remains unclear. Despite their establishment, there are questions regarding the influence of these councils on local policies and decisions. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of youth representation in local governance and to assess whether youth councils have led to meaningful changes in the way decisions are made in Bama LGA.
