Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Youth unemployment remains a pressing issue in Nigeria, with millions of young people lacking access to meaningful employment opportunities. Indigenous films, rooted in local cultures and languages, have emerged as powerful platforms for addressing societal challenges, including unemployment (Usman & Ibrahim, 2023). In Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Kebbi State, indigenous films have been used to highlight entrepreneurial opportunities, vocational skills, and the importance of self-reliance among youths (Aliyu, 2024). By showcasing success stories and offering practical solutions, these films inspire young audiences to embrace skills acquisition and self-employment as viable paths to economic empowerment (Mohammed, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the potential of indigenous films to address youth unemployment, the unemployment rate in Birnin Kebbi remains high. This raises questions about the reach and effectiveness of these films in inspiring behavioral change and providing actionable solutions.
