Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Moral development is a critical aspect of human growth, involving the formation of ethical principles and values that guide behavior. Christian-themed films, with their faith-based narratives, have emerged as a powerful medium for promoting moral values and fostering spiritual growth. In Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, where Christianity plays a significant role in the social fabric, these films serve as tools for moral instruction and community development (John & Peter, 2023). By portraying stories of redemption, forgiveness, and the consequences of ethical choices, Christian-themed films resonate with audiences and inspire them to adopt positive values (Adebayo, 2024). Research indicates that such films influence viewers’ perspectives on right and wrong, providing a platform for moral reflection and behavioral change (Ibrahim, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the potential of Christian-themed films to shape moral values, there is limited empirical evidence on their impact on audiences in Dekina. Moral challenges such as dishonesty, substance abuse, and societal decay persist, raising questions about the effectiveness of these films in fostering moral development. This study addresses the gap by evaluating the impact of Christian-themed films on moral behavior in Dekina Local Government Area (Ojo, 2024).

  3. What challenges affect the impact of Christian-themed films on moral development?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  1. Christian-themed films significantly contribute to moral development in Dekina.
  2. Viewers of Christian-themed films are more likely to adopt positive moral behaviors.
  3. Limited access to Christian-themed films reduces their impact on moral development.

1.6 Significance of the Study

The study underscores the role of Christian-themed films in fostering moral development, providing valuable insights for filmmakers, religious leaders, and educators in promoting ethical values through media.
