1.1 Background of the Study
Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, has become one of the largest film industries globally, with its reach extending across Africa and the diaspora. The educational potential of Nollywood films, which often address social, political, and personal issues, has been recognized as a tool for promoting educational attainment, particularly among youths (Usman & Iqbal, 2023). In Bida West Local Government Area, Niger State, where educational resources may be limited, Nollywood films have the opportunity to supplement formal education by providing alternative learning experiences that are engaging and thought-provoking. This study examines the influence of Nollywood films on educational attainment in Bida West, specifically assessing how films address educational themes, inspire academic success, and challenge societal barriers to education.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although Nollywood films are widely consumed in Bida West, their direct impact on educational attainment is not well understood. While films may be seen as entertainment, their potential to influence academic aspirations and achievement is often overlooked. This study seeks to explore the role of Nollywood films in influencing the educational aspirations of youths in Bida West and whether they contribute to improved educational outcomes (Aliyu & Umar, 2024).
