Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
War movies have long been a significant genre in global cinema, portraying historical events, strategic narratives, and the consequences of armed conflict. Beyond entertainment, such films serve as powerful mediums for educating audiences about national security and instilling a sense of vigilance and patriotism (Aluko & Nwankwo, 2024). In Bukuru Local Government Area, Plateau State, a region historically affected by security challenges, the consumption of war movies has the potential to shape residents' awareness of national security issues. This study investigates the role of war movies in fostering national security awareness, analyzing their themes, audience reception, and practical impacts.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the proliferation of war movies in Nigerian and global cinema, their influence on national security awareness remains underexplored, particularly in areas like Bukuru, where security concerns are prevalent. While these films can provide valuable lessons on vigilance, resilience, and strategy, it is unclear whether their messages resonate with audiences or contribute to tangible improvements in security consciousness (Ibrahim & Adebayo, 2023). This study addresses the gap by exploring the influence of war movies on national security awareness in Bukuru.
