1.1 Background of the Study
In an increasingly globalized world, cultural fusion—where different cultural practices and traditions blend to form new cultural expressions—has become a significant phenomenon. Nollywood, Nigeria’s vibrant film industry, plays a central role in this process, offering narratives that celebrate cultural diversity while fostering intercultural understanding (Adamu & Ibrahim, 2023). Through its vast array of films, Nollywood reflects and integrates elements from Nigeria’s multifaceted ethnic, linguistic, and religious landscape, making it a powerful medium for cultural fusion (Eze & Yusuf, 2024). In Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, known for its rich cultural heritage and ethnic diversity, Nollywood films serve as a medium for exploring and blending cultural identities. This study examines the influence of Nollywood on cultural fusion in Okene, focusing on how films shape cultural perceptions, practices, and interactions.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While Nollywood has been celebrated for its cultural representation, its role in fostering cultural fusion, particularly in diverse communities like Okene, remains underexplored. In a region where ethnic identities are strong, the influence of Nollywood on cultural interactions and integration is significant but not well understood (Aliyu & Bello, 2023). This study seeks to investigate how Nollywood films contribute to cultural fusion in Okene, examining both their positive impact on intercultural understanding and potential challenges in representing cultural identities.
