Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Peace education is a vital tool for fostering social harmony and conflict resolution. In Jos North Local Government, Plateau State, recurrent conflicts underscore the need for sustained peacebuilding efforts. Print media plays an essential role in promoting peace education by providing platforms for dialogue, publishing conflict resolution strategies, and educating the public on the benefits of peaceful coexistence. This study examines the contributions of print media to peace education in Jos North.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite ongoing efforts to address conflicts in Jos North, tensions persist due to limited access to peace education and a lack of effective communication channels. Print media, as a potential peacebuilding tool, is underutilized in this regard. This study investigates the role of print media in promoting peace education and identifies challenges faced in this context.

1.6 Significance of the Study

The study provides insights into how print media can support peacebuilding initiatives and offers practical recommendations for enhancing media contributions to conflict resolution.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on the role of print media in promoting peace education within Jos North Local Government, Plateau State. Other communication channels and regions are excluded.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

• Peace Education: Educational efforts aimed at fostering understanding, tolerance, and conflict resolution.

• Print Media: Newspapers and magazines disseminating information on peacebuilding.
