Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Consumer attitudes towards local products are a critical factor in the development of local economies. Newspapers, as a primary form of print media, play an essential role in shaping public perceptions and encouraging the patronage of locally produced goods. In Gusau Local Government, Zamfara State, the media has the potential to highlight the benefits of local products, showcase success stories, and advocate for the economic importance of supporting local businesses. By framing local products as valuable and desirable, newspapers influence consumer behavior and stimulate local market growth. This study examines how newspaper coverage affects consumer attitudes towards local products in Gusau, emphasizing the role of media in driving economic sustainability.
