Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Religious harmony is vital for peaceful coexistence in diverse societies, particularly in Maiduguri Local Government, Borno State, where religious tensions have historically been a challenge. Print media plays a crucial role in fostering religious harmony by promoting understanding, tolerance, and dialogue. Through balanced reporting and positive narratives, newspapers can influence public attitudes and contribute to conflict resolution. This study aims to evaluate the impact of print media coverage on religious harmony in Maiduguri, focusing on how media content affects public perception and interfaith relations.

Despite efforts to promote religious harmony, tensions and conflicts persist in Maiduguri.
