Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Free newspaper distribution has gained prominence as a strategic approach to increase access to information, particularly in regions where economic challenges limit the purchase of newspapers. In Damaturu Local Government, Yobe State, free newspapers serve as critical tools for disseminating public information on health, education, governance, and development issues (Ali & Musa, 2024). This distribution model bridges the gap between the public and crucial information, fostering an informed citizenry. Research indicates that free newspapers significantly enhance awareness in underserved areas by offering readily available content without economic barriers (Ibrahim & Bello, 2023).
