Background of the Study
Polio eradication remains a top priority for global and national health initiatives, with Nigeria having achieved significant milestones in eliminating the disease. However, challenges such as vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and limited access to healthcare services continue to pose risks, particularly in densely populated areas like Kano Municipal Local Government Area (LGA). Communication plays a central role in polio eradication campaigns by addressing misconceptions, building trust, and promoting vaccination uptake. Studies have shown that community engagement, social mobilization, and mass media campaigns contribute significantly to the success of polio eradication efforts (Yusuf & Ahmed, 2023). This study evaluates the effectiveness of communication strategies in Kano Municipal LGA, exploring their impact on vaccination rates and public awareness.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite concerted efforts to eradicate polio in Nigeria, some communities in Kano Municipal LGA remain resistant to vaccination due to misinformation, cultural beliefs, and mistrust of healthcare systems. This resistance undermines the success of polio eradication campaigns and puts communities at risk of outbreaks. Effective communication strategies are essential to counter these challenges, ensuring that accurate information reaches the public and fosters trust in vaccination programs (Aliyu et al., 2024). This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of current communication efforts and identify areas for improvement in polio eradication campaigns.

The study is limited to evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies in polio eradication campaigns within Kano Municipal LGA, Kano State. It focuses on community engagement, public awareness, and vaccination uptake. Limitations may include variability in campaign execution and data access challenges.
