Background of the Study

Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State has experienced significant conflicts, particularly clashes between herders and farmers, leaving widespread devastation in its communities. Post-conflict rebuilding is a complex process that requires strategic communication to ensure effective coordination, trust-building, and community engagement. Development communication plays a crucial role in rebuilding efforts by promoting reconciliation, facilitating information dissemination, and mobilizing resources for recovery (Okoh et al., 2023). Effective strategies include participatory media, community-based dialogue, and culturally sensitive messaging that address the underlying causes of conflict and foster unity (Eze & Abah, 2024). This study investigates the effectiveness of communication strategies in post-conflict rebuilding in Agatu LGA, emphasizing their role in achieving long-term stability.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite ongoing rebuilding efforts in Agatu LGA, challenges such as mistrust, lack of community participation, and inadequate communication strategies have hindered progress. In many cases, rebuilding programs fail to address the root causes of conflict or involve affected communities, resulting in limited impact and potential recurrence of violence. Development communication offers a pathway to bridge these gaps by promoting transparency, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity. This study evaluates the effectiveness of development communication strategies in Agatu LGA, identifying areas for improvement to enhance rebuilding efforts.
