Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Government-citizen engagement is essential for fostering trust, transparency, and accountability in governance. Corporate communication serves as a bridge between governments and citizens, ensuring the dissemination of accurate information, addressing public concerns, and promoting participatory governance. In Shira Local Government Area, Bauchi State, ineffective communication strategies often hinder meaningful engagement, leading to mistrust and low civic participation. Studies emphasize that strategic corporate communication enhances government transparency, citizen involvement, and service delivery (Abdullahi & Garba, 2024). This study explores the role of corporate communication in improving government-citizen engagement in the region.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of corporate communication to enhance government-citizen engagement, many local governments in Shira struggle with communication gaps, misinformation, and limited public participation. This study investigates how corporate communication can address these challenges and improve engagement outcomes.
