Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Transparency in government revenue collection is a fundamental aspect of good governance, as it ensures accountability, reduces corruption, and fosters public trust. Corporate communication plays a critical role in promoting transparency by effectively disseminating information about revenue collection processes, policies, and the allocation of funds. In Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State, there has been an increasing push towards improving transparency in government revenue collection, especially as the local government seeks to enhance its financial management and build trust with the public. However, challenges such as poor communication strategies, lack of clarity in revenue collection procedures, and limited public awareness have hindered the full realization of transparency goals. This study examines how corporate communication can facilitate transparency in government revenue collection in Darazo, focusing on how communication strategies can inform and engage the public, reduce misinformation, and ensure accountability in the collection process.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the efforts to improve transparency in government revenue collection in Darazo Local Government Area, there remain significant challenges in effectively communicating revenue-related information to the public. A lack of clear communication, coupled with insufficient public engagement, has led to mistrust and confusion about how revenue is collected and used. This study seeks to explore the role of corporate communication in enhancing transparency in revenue collection, with the goal of identifying strategies that can foster greater public understanding, trust, and participation in the revenue process.
