Background of the Study
Financial management is a vital skill for educational administrators, particularly in private schools where resources may be more limited than in public institutions. In Ogun State, private schools have become increasingly significant in providing quality education, but they often face challenges in managing financial resources effectively. Financial management skills, including budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting, can significantly influence the operational success of private schools, which in turn may affect the overall academic performance of teachers and students. Teachers in private schools, particularly those in Ogun State, play a pivotal role in implementing educational policies, managing classroom activities, and fostering a learning environment. However, the financial resources allocated for their development and the school’s operational needs may be compromised due to poor financial management, which could adversely impact teaching performance.

This study aims to explore the relationship between financial management skills and the academic performance of private school teachers in Ogun State. The research seeks to understand how the financial practices of school administrators influence the professional development opportunities provided to teachers and, consequently, their academic output.

Statement of the Problem
Private schools in Ogun State face financial constraints that affect their ability to provide adequate resources for teaching, professional development, and improving learning outcomes. Financial mismanagement can exacerbate these challenges and lead to insufficient funding for teacher training, poor classroom environments, and low academic performance among students. While financial management skills are considered vital for improving school operations, there is limited research on how these skills directly affect the academic performance of teachers in private schools in Ogun State. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the effect of financial management skills on the academic performance of teachers in private schools, focusing on the influence of school administrators' financial management practices.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the relationship between financial management skills and the academic performance of teachers in private schools in Ogun State.
  2. To identify the impact of effective financial management on the provision of resources and professional development for teachers.
  3. To offer recommendations for enhancing financial management practices in private schools to improve teachers’ academic performance.

Research Questions

  1. What is the relationship between financial management skills and the academic performance of private school teachers in Ogun State?
  2. How do financial management skills affect the availability of resources and professional development opportunities for private school teachers in Ogun State?
  3. How can financial management practices be improved to enhance the academic performance of private school teachers in Ogun State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Financial management skills significantly influence the academic performance of private school teachers in Ogun State.
  2. Effective financial management improves the availability of resources and professional development for private school teachers in Ogun State.
  3. Poor financial management practices lead to decreased academic performance among private school teachers in Ogun State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on private secondary schools in Ogun State, specifically examining the financial management skills of school administrators and how these skills influence the academic performance of teachers. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews with school administrators and teachers. Limitations may include challenges in obtaining accurate financial records and the potential bias of respondents regarding financial practices.
