Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Career counseling is an essential process that helps individuals understand their strengths, interests, and opportunities in order to make informed career choices. In Shendam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, young people often face challenges in navigating the complex world of career options, education, and employment opportunities. Traditional career counseling methods, such as face-to-face sessions, have limitations in terms of accessibility and reach. However, digital media offers new avenues for delivering career guidance. Online platforms, such as websites, social media, and video conferencing, provide accessible, real-time, and personalized career counseling services. Digital media also plays a significant role in connecting individuals with resources such as job opportunities, scholarship information, and skill-building programs, all of which are crucial for career development. Recent studies (Musa & Adamu, 2023) indicate that digital media has transformed career counseling by making it more inclusive and accessible. This study aims to explore the role of digital media in career counseling in Shendam LGA and its impact on the career choices and development of the youth.
