Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
In many rural areas of Nigeria, particularly in Jega Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State, farmers often face challenges related to information accessibility. These challenges include limited access to market prices, weather forecasts, agricultural training, and modern farming techniques, which can hinder productivity and economic growth. Digital media has emerged as a key tool in improving access to agricultural information, allowing farmers to receive timely updates on weather conditions, crop diseases, and market prices. According to Yusuf and Adamu (2023), digital platforms such as mobile apps and social media have the potential to transform agricultural practices by improving information flow and fostering knowledge sharing among farmers. This study will explore how digital media impacts the accessibility of information for farmers in Jega, focusing on how these platforms contribute to improved decision-making and enhanced agricultural outcomes.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Farmers in Jega LGA often struggle to access reliable and timely information that is essential for improving agricultural productivity. While digital media offers opportunities to address these challenges, its impact on information accessibility in the agricultural sector remains under-researched in this region. This study seeks to examine how digital media can improve information accessibility for farmers in Jega, and assess its effectiveness in enhancing agricultural practices and economic outcomes for farmers.
