Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Television has long been a powerful tool in shaping public opinion, especially among youth. In Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, television news coverage plays a significant role in informing the public about political events, leadership dynamics, and governance issues. For young people, television news serves as a key source of information about political leadership and governance. This study aims to examine the impact of television news coverage on youth interest in political leadership, specifically focusing on how news stories, political debates, and election coverage shape young people's political aspirations, attitudes, and behaviors.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of television to influence youth political engagement, there is limited research on how television news coverage specifically affects youth interest in political leadership in rural areas such as Kachia.
