Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Consumer rights advocacy has become an essential aspect of protecting individuals from unfair practices in the market. In Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State, consumers face challenges such as price inflation, counterfeit goods, and substandard services. Digital media, through platforms like social media, blogs, and consumer rights websites, has played a significant role in empowering consumers by providing information about their rights and mechanisms to seek redress. This study seeks to assess how digital media has been utilized in Offa LGA to advocate for consumer rights, raise awareness about exploitation, and empower individuals to take action against unfair practices.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although digital media has opened new avenues for consumer rights advocacy, its impact on consumer awareness and protection in Offa is still underexplored. Despite the growing use of platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp for consumer advocacy, many residents may not fully engage with these tools due to low digital literacy or limited access to the internet.
