Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Environmental sustainability has become a critical concern globally, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. In regions such as Kachia Local Government Area (LGA) in Kaduna State, environmental issues such as deforestation, waste management, and pollution continue to pose significant challenges. Digital media has emerged as an important tool for promoting environmental sustainability by providing a platform for awareness, education, and advocacy. According to Musa et al. (2023), digital media can help raise awareness about environmental issues, engage local communities in sustainability efforts, and promote policies that support long-term environmental goals. This study examines the role of digital media in promoting environmental sustainability in Kachia, focusing on how local communities engage with online platforms to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While environmental issues in Kachia are recognized, the community faces challenges in effectively addressing these problems due to a lack of awareness, limited resources, and insufficient engagement with environmental programs. Although digital media has the potential to mobilize the community and promote sustainable practices, its role in environmental advocacy in Kachia remains under-researched. This study aims to explore how digital media is being used to promote environmental sustainability and engage the community in Kachia's efforts to preserve its natural resources.

The study will focus on Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State and will specifically explore the role of digital media in promoting environmental sustainability in the region. It will not consider other areas or broader global environmental issues.
