Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Unemployment remains a critical issue in many regions of Nigeria, with young people particularly affected. In Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State, digital media has been increasingly recognized as a tool to combat unemployment by fostering entrepreneurship, providing job opportunities, and enhancing access to skill development resources. Platforms such as LinkedIn, job boards, e-learning sites, and digital job markets provide avenues for employment and business development. According to research by Ojo et al. (2024), digital media has been instrumental in creating job awareness, providing remote work opportunities, and facilitating skill acquisition programs. This study explores the role of digital media in reducing unemployment in Kaura Namoda, focusing on how online platforms are used to connect job seekers with employers, provide skills training, and encourage entrepreneurship.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of digital media to address unemployment, the full scope of its impact in Kaura Namoda remains under-researched. Factors such as low internet penetration, limited digital literacy, and economic constraints affect how effectively digital media can be leveraged for job creation and economic development. Additionally, there is a lack of comprehensive studies that assess how digital media influences employment opportunities in rural areas like Kaura Namoda. This study seeks to fill this gap by examining the role of digital media in reducing unemployment in the area.
