Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
In recent years, digital media has played an increasingly vital role in enhancing educational resources across the globe, especially in regions affected by conflict and limited access to traditional educational tools. Maiduguri Metropolitan Local Government Area in Borno State, Nigeria, has faced numerous educational challenges due to the ongoing insurgency in the region, which has disrupted both formal and informal educational systems. However, digital media, through platforms like online learning, virtual classrooms, and educational apps, has emerged as a powerful tool to bridge educational gaps. According to Abdulahi and Lawal (2024), digital media has the potential to provide access to a vast array of educational materials that would otherwise be unavailable in conflict zones. This study investigates how digital media is used to enhance educational resources in Maiduguri Metropolitan, focusing on the opportunities it presents and the challenges faced by educators and students in this region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the transformative potential of digital media, the use of these resources in Maiduguri Metropolitan faces several barriers, including limited internet access, digital literacy challenges, and the security situation. While there are initiatives aimed at integrating digital tools into education, these challenges hinder their full effectiveness in the region.
