Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Health infrastructure is fundamental to delivering quality healthcare services, yet many rural areas in Nigeria, such as Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, face challenges related to inadequate facilities and resources. Community support is vital for addressing these challenges, and radio serves as a key medium for mobilizing such support. Radio programs can raise awareness, promote advocacy, and encourage community participation in the development and maintenance of health infrastructure. Recent studies, including Eze and Musa (2023), underscore the importance of radio in fostering grassroots initiatives, demonstrating its ability to bridge the gap between government efforts and community needs. This study explores how radio broadcasts in Ngor Okpala contribute to mobilizing community support for health infrastructure development and sustainability.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite ongoing efforts to improve health infrastructure in Ngor Okpala, progress remains slow due to limited community engagement and support. While radio has been used to promote health campaigns, its potential to mobilize resources and encourage local participation in infrastructure development remains underutilized. Without a clear understanding of its role, opportunities to harness radio for community-driven health initiatives may be missed.
