Background of the Study
In rural areas, including Kwali LGA in the Federal Capital Territory, access to information and education is often limited. Broadcasting, through radio and television, has emerged as an essential tool for rural development, providing communities with vital information about government programs, agricultural practices, health initiatives, and economic opportunities. This study seeks to explore how rural communities in Kwali perceive broadcasting as a tool for their development, focusing on its role in enhancing education, promoting social change, and improving livelihoods.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
While broadcasting has the potential to drive rural development, the extent to which residents in Kwali LGA perceive it as an effective tool for development is unclear. There is a need to evaluate the role of broadcasting in meeting the information needs of rural communities and in driving socio-economic growth. This study will investigate the perception of Kwali residents regarding the effectiveness of broadcasting in supporting their development.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the perception of Kwali LGA residents regarding broadcasting as a tool for rural development.

  2. To evaluate the role of broadcasting in promoting rural education and awareness in Kwali LGA.

  3. To examine how broadcasting influences socio-economic development and public participation in Kwali LGA.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How do residents of Kwali LGA perceive broadcasting as a tool for rural development?

  3. How does broadcasting contribute to socio-economic development and public participation in Kwali LGA?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. Residents of Kwali LGA perceive broadcasting as an important tool for rural development.

  2. Broadcasting plays a significant role in promoting education and awareness in Kwali LGA.

  3. Broadcasting contributes positively to socio-economic development and public participation in Kwali LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will provide insights into how broadcasting can be used more effectively to drive rural development. The findings can guide policymakers, media practitioners, and development agencies in designing more impactful broadcast programs that address the unique challenges faced by rural communities.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the perception of broadcasting as a tool for rural development in Kwali LGA, FCT. It will evaluate the content, reach, and impact of radio and television programs in the community. Limitations include the potential for varying perceptions among different demographic groups within the community.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  1. Broadcasting: The transmission of radio and television content to a wide audience for the purpose of information dissemination and entertainment.

  2. Rural Development: The process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas through the provision of information, infrastructure, and services.

  3. Socio-Economic Development: The improvement of both social and economic conditions in a community, including education, health, employment, and standard of living.
