Background of the Study
Broadcasting plays a critical role in shaping national identity and promoting social cohesion in a multicultural country like Nigeria. Lokoja LGA in Kogi State, being strategically located and home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, provides a unique setting for exploring the role of broadcasting in fostering national integration. Television, radio, and other forms of broadcasting have the potential to promote national unity by disseminating messages that encourage tolerance, mutual respect, and cooperation among different groups. This study examines how broadcasting in Lokoja LGA contributes to promoting national integration and fostering a sense of belonging and unity among the people.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Nigeria faces significant challenges in terms of national integration, particularly due to ethnic, religious, and regional divides. Broadcasting, as a powerful medium, has the potential to bridge these divides by promoting messages of unity and national identity.
